- Do you listen to music often?
- Do you get joy from music?
- Has music ever helped you when you were feeling sad or depressed?
- If you listen to music while engaging in a physical activity, have you noticed less physical distress? (Ex. lifting weights or running while listening to music)
- Does music help you think, or help you focus on work?
The results I got were quite even to each other, and all results are independent of each other. 100% of people said yes to both questions 1 and 2. This actually makes sense, because I have never meet anyone who despised music. 93% of people said yes to questions 3 and 4. The major outlier was question 5 with 76% saying yes. My theory is that the students who have listen to music while working, were listening to very distracting music. You can't obviously listen to Heavy Metal or Rap or any music that is very " busy". You must try simple music that has a even tempo and beat, with a mid-tempo (speed) feel.
This survey was a sample of what people generally notice or think of music. I think this survey shows that music is beneficial in one way or another to people. It's clear that people get joy or comfort from music. A majority feel that music is physically and psychologically beneficial, and More than half think music can help the thinking process when doing any sort of work. In other words, music improves life for the better.
