"Music therapy can make the difference between withdrawal and awareness, between isolation and interaction, between chronic pain and comfort, between demoralization and dignity.'' In this new field of heathcare, music is used to cure and alleviate all kinds of probelms, and can be supervised by professional music therapists and be practiced by the individual themselves. This website is designed to inform you about music therapy and its many benefits on your body and mind. All information was obtained through extensive research.

Psychological Effects

Music therapy is an inexpensive source to help with psychological and emotional problems. Music therapy can promote a positive state of mind, induced by positive music and lyrics. It blocks or at least prevents depression and anxiety, it helps a person relax after a stressful day, and it promotes a state of grace and peace. A great way to relieve stress is to play music in the car, especially in traffic where you can be really frustrated and stressed out.

Music therapy is also a good way to express yourself, especially for people who are shy or have communication disabilities. It gives opportunities for these kinds of people to really get emotions out, like love or angst. Music therapy increases self-esteem, self-acceptance, and gives you a better ability to cope with personal problems. "Through perception we recognize music's physical characteristics-the rhythm, harmony and tone. Our emotional responses evoke feelings-sadness, happiness, relaxation and more(Bowling, Darley 43)"

  1. I really get what this is saying. Certain chord progressions make me relax and help my mind feel at ease. For me, the song "Octavarium" by Dream Theater in particular has a soothing yet uplifting effect on me.

  2. This is so true! I notice a marked difference in my general attitude when I am listening to music and when I am not. I will find a song to fit my mood and play it over and over again, and it makes me feel better.

  3. I fully agree with this. Music no doubt has a huge influence on how a person feels/acts. Mood can directly be connected to what kind of music is playing, both creating a good or bad mood depending.

  4. Speaking from personal experience, I would have to completely agree with the presented psychological effects of music. Music has always "gotten me through" the difficult times in my life. Through the lyrics I can make a connection to someone who has "been there, done that"; through the notes and chords I can soothe my nerves, energize, or "escape," whichever is needed most at the time.

  5. I love to play music. When i am performing or just at home in my room playing, i feel so relaxed. Or when i start playing and people start cheering it is the best feeling in the world for me. And when i listen to music i will listen to anything depending on what kind of mood i am in. Such as Lamb of God when i am pissed haha
